Status: Concept Stage, Looking for Funding & Partners
Imagine a place in the heart of North York where neighbours meet, connect, learn, and support each other — right within walking distance of home.
We are excited to propose the Community Center of the Future, a vibrant multicultural hub in a historic home near Yonge and Sheppard. Once an unused heritage asset, this house can become a welcoming gathering place for residents of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds, a place where everyone feels truly welcome.
Loneliness and social isolation are growing public health concerns across Canada:
Studies show that more than 1 in 4 Canadians report feeling lonely at least some of the time. (source: Canadian Index of Wellbeing)
Social isolation is linked to poorer mental and physical health for people of all ages, especially seniors.
Our center is designed to be an antidote to that — a space for connection, purpose, and everyday belonging.
The Elihu Pease historical house sits right in the middle of a dense residential neighborhood, surrounded by many condominium buildings near Yonge and Sheppard.
In recent years, the house has been largely inactive since COVID (approx 5 years).
Thousands of residents live within walking distance, yet there is no nearby space dedicated to community programming, cultural events, and social connection. This house has the potential to become a welcoming hub for families, seniors, children, and newcomers, offering activities, workshops, and events that help people connect, make friends, and feel part of the community.

The house features 5 rooms, 2 bathrooms, and an accessible ramp for strollers and wheelchairs, making it ideal for seniors and families with young children.
Walkable, Local Access

A Space for Everyone
We see this not just as a building, but as:
A place where you bump into neighbours
A home away from home for new Canadians
A space where kids, parents, and seniors can feel supported
A place of joy, learning, and shared experiences
This multicultural center will celebrate heritage and culture while building meaningful relationships that strengthen our entire community.

To bring this vision to life, we are looking for:
Business sponsors to support initial operating costs
A Guarantor / Founding partner to secure the long-term lease and enable major funding applications
Community champions to help spread the word
Supporting this initiative means:
Investing in community well-being
Helping local families and seniors thrive
Being recognized as a Founding Partner in all center communications — online and offline
Creating a visible, lasting impact in North York
